19/2/06 Second meeting
Alex Freeman, making her indoor debut, ran a really good time of 8.64s to finish second in her heat and 12 th out of 35 in the U15 girls 60m. In the U15 girls 200m, a time of 29.28s earned Kelly Duffill third place in her heat. Alex recorded 29.39s to finish fifth in her 200m heat in spite of twisting her ankle when turning back on the banked track after the previous false start. Tuesday Bickley was second in her heat of the U17 womens 200m in 28.44s.
Luke Evans was B&R’s only male competitor at this meeting and came away with a P.B. of 7.58s in the 60m. Running against his former club-mate Sean Duffill, he ran 23.95s in his U17 men’s 200m heat, just four hundredths of a second slower than at the previous week’s meeting.
11-12/2/06 First meeting
On Saturday, B&R’s Luke Evans was 3rd in his heat and 4th overall in the U17 men’s 200m in a time of 23.91s On the next day, he was 3rd in the U17 men’s 400m in 52.97s.
Four B&R U13 girls competed against athletes from across the Midlands (and from Bridgend A.C. and Amber Valley) in the Combined Events Meeting on the Sunday. Points from four events (60m, shot put, long jump and high jump) were added up to produce overall positions in both the MCAA Championships and the Open Meeting.
Rachel Baker was highest placed B&R athlete, finishing 8th in both the Midlands and Open competitions. Kate Racki was the only other B&R to compete in all four events to get overall positions (12th and 14th). Paizlee Hibbert missed only the high jump whilst Helen Racki ran the 60m and put the shot. Their performances in each event are shown below. Jazmin Sawyers from City of Stoke A.C. finished first in both the Midlands and Open competitions.
Rachel Baker: 60 m 8.98s (676 points), shot 5.20m (221), LJ.41m (182) & HJ 1.18 (293). Total 1372 points.
Kate Racki: 60m 9.44s (567), shot 4.93m (204), LJ 3.11 (126) & HJ 1.06 (188). Total 1085.
Paizlee Hibbert: 60m 8.83s (712), shot 4.75m (193), LJ 3.43m (186).
Helen Racki: 60m 10.48s (349), shot 5.26s (225).
Three ex-B&R athletes who have moved to Birchfield Harriers performed well at this meeting too. Jade Peak was 1st in the U17 women’s 200m (25.91s) on the Saturday. The trio all recorded first places in their 200m heats on the Sunday in the Spar Sprints Initiative running for “Birmingham” teams against Loughborough: Jade Peak 25.71s (2nd overall), Sean Duffill 22.65 s (3rd overall) and Daniel Fagen 22.14s.
