Midland Men's T&F League Div. 3
1st July 2006, Rugby
Team captain James Adie reports:
On the day England would bow out of the world cup, 8 athletes turned out for B&R and dug deep into their reserves to earn a creditable 6th place (only 1 point behind Birchfield). In the overall standings, B&R are placed 4th (considering individual points; see table below). Currently this is an improvement on the overall 5th place of last season. On the day, special thanks go to all the officials who helped out and to all the athletes and supporters who were involved. The team was fantastic, especially the way people willingly volunteered for events outside their specialist discipline to cover all the events. Some key performances to note were Tom Richardson (U20) clocking 66.0s in the 400m hurdles (5th). Tom also ran the 3km steeplechase and a 400m relay leg. Matt Addison (U20) was outstanding in the 800m winning in a new personal best of 1.54.6. James Adie also won (2.04.0) to help obtain maximum points in both the 800m 'A' and 'B' races. James Hart stormed around the 200m running a very hard race to finish 4th with a season’s best time (23.5s). Hart was also on top form in the high jump winning in a clearance of 1.85m. Besides taking part in a many events, Andy Freeman was most effective in the high jump (4th; 1.55m). Mark Bennett, returning to the team after injury, was happy with his 100m (12.1). The dynamic duo, Sam Cater and Mike Rudkin, were in excellent form in the throwing events. Sam finished 2nd in the 'A' hammer (32.78) and 1st in the 'A' Javelin with a huge throw of 54.12m. Mike was brilliant in the 'B' throwing events. In particular, he recorded a marginal yet significant victory in the hammer (25.54m) by 20 cm. The team travels to Worcester for the next fixture to enjoy their athletics.
