B & R Awards Night 2006

All the awards winners 2006

Above: Well done to all our winners!

Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club hosted its annual Awards Evening in Redditch on Saturday 4th November. The special guest was Mike Mole who had served on the Club’s Committee, in various guises, for 15 years, including that of Chairman for the last 3 years.  Mike, having recently given up his official duties with the Club, was warmly thanked and applauded by all at the Award ceremony for his time, effort and commitment to the club and its athletes. Mike then generously made the presentation of the awards to the Club’s athletes.

The most successful was Yvonne Priestman who apart from competing in all league fixtures and recording PBs in 5 distances, set a new British record at the indoor World Masters Championship in Linz, Austria where she was World Champion in her age group and took other medals at the same games. Not content with that she took a further 3 medals, including gold in 400m at the European Championships at Poznan, Poland. A close second was Julie Wakelam who also competed at all league fixtures to set new Club records in long jump, triple jump and hammer and won gold in her age group in these events at the Midland Masters Championships.

The men were not to be outdone with James Hart picking a well earned trophy for competing in all league fixtures to record PBs in the triple jump and long jump Awards were also made, across the various age groups to reward good times and performances, and Club records in track and field events, and cross-country and road races. Notable winners were Jack Morley (U/11), and Simon Lanckham and Sean Bowden (both U/15).

For their behind the scenes efforts, without which no Club can succeed, Steve Mobley and Polly Gerner, were justly rewarded for their commitment in making B&R a thriving club.

After the awards, athletes’ training regimes and diets took a back seat as they all enjoyed a pig roast, sipped at an occasional light ale and worked off surplus energy in the disco.
