Worcestershire Mid-week Race Series 2007

Race 2. Wednesday 13th June.

7.3 miles multi-terrain race

Arrow Valley Countryside Park, Redditch

About an hour before the start a light drizzle started which I thought was actually welcome as it cooled things down a bit and also seemed to keep at bay the insects which were out in droves the previous night !

Tom Kenderdine and Bill Nock took off from the start, leaving the rest of us to battle it out. It was still very hard under foot despite the rain with the majority (including me!) opting for flats which turned out to be perfect.

There was a slight change in the course over last year because the council had put a 'kissing gate' in one of the gaps we used to run through.

People's times seemed to be down on last year (except Bill - 40 sec faster!) which suggests it was slightly more difficult!

It was very well marsalled, a point which several people made a point of coming to tell me afterwards and from the comments I got the course was widely enjoyed with somebody actually saying that there was 'something for eveybody in it'. Bill actually commented that it was an extremely hard course!

Thanks to the marshals, finish line officials, Terry Wise for taping out by the route by the carpark and Alex from Halesowen for bringing over and setting up the waterstation.

P.S. One point - I actually saw Gordon Marshal go across the finish line so was surprised to see he was given a 'DNF', will try to sort that out!

P.P.S. Gordon (runner number 35) confirmed that he finished in 57-something. It appears that he was recorded as number 36 but that was Ron Smith M70 from Worcester . We know a Worcester runner pulled out after one lap but as there was no Worcester runner recorded as DNF, we think that this must have been Ron. So I've put Gordon at 63rd in the results below but I haven't revised all the subsequent positions in the Male Open category - I'll leave that to the series organisers to sort out!
