Saturday 9th – Sunday 10th June

Bromsgrove and Redditch once again competed in the relay from Caernarfon to Cardiff, this being our 14th consecutive appearance!
Nine of us turned up at a very sunny Caernarfon on Friday night, and after finding our respective B&B’s. We hit the town for a couple of sherbets! joining hundreds of other runners from all over the UK and Europe! The Team Captain got quite carried away, deciding after a couple of Guinnesses that a kebab was in order…unfortunately the kebab moved quicker than he did on Sunday!
Saturday morning arrived and after the race briefing we made our way to our marshalling points – thank goodness Liz, Mad and Nina turned up to help.
Carbie and Jammer emerged from their night in the ‘African Room’ to run Legs 1 and 2. Phil ran brilliantly into 3rd place and 1st Vet. On Saturday's last leg Dave Kesterton came 3rd and won ‘Monarch of the Mountain’!
Saturday night a few of us hit Newtown and a few of us had an earlier night ready for the Sunday.
At the half-way stage on Saturday night we were in 12th position.
An early start on Sunday and once again in brilliant sunshine we headed for Cardiff. The support along the way on both days was brilliant, although unfortunately not many runners from B&R followed the race through…..so 200 miles later and very weary we arrived at Cardiff Castle where we finished up a very creditable 14th… A truly great and memorable weekend!
Thanks to all runners for taking part, and a very very big thanks to Carbie, Jammer, David, Tracy, Jane, Liz, Mad and Nina, without whose help the weekend wouldn’t have run so smoothly! Although I have to say we did really let ourselves down in the support department – too many runners running their respective legs and going home….come on B&R!!!
And finally, this year we have a special award for the best non-running performance of the weekend and as Castles’ Manager I am proud to announce the inaugural winner of the ‘African Room’ Trophy is Jammer! For reasons best known to a few of us!
