Mason Trophy Meeting

Alexander Stadium, Birmingham

Three young Bromsgrove & Redditch athletes qualified from the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Schools Championships the previous Sunday to represent the two counties at Birchfield Harrier’s Alexander Stadium. The Mason Trophy is a Schools Inter-County Invitation match and this year’s competition pitted H&W athletes against teams from Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Mersey, Notts., Salop, Staffs. and West Midlands.

Amy Irish finished 6th in the Intermediate Girls 300m A race in a time of 44.9 seconds.

Kota Suzuki (above left with his H&W gold medal the previous week) followed his first place in the H&W championships with 11.9 seconds and 3rd place in the Junior Boys 100m A race in the Mason Trophy. His time was only 0.1 seconds behind the first and second placed athletes – in fact 3rd to 5th were all given 11.9 seconds in a close race.

James Mobley (above right with his silver H&W medal at Nunnery Wood) equalled his P.B. of 11.7 seconds from last week’s H&W champs. to finish 4th in the Intermediate Boys 100m B race. This was another tight finish with James being given the same time as the 3rd placed runner.

A great chance to run on a first class track and to soak up the atmosphere of a big event – James’ dad Steve got the chance to pick up field judging tips and the rare pleasure (?) of having to pay a £5 admission  to see James run.
