B&R U13 & U15 girls win age group competitions
Sutton Coldfield AC hosted the first Heart of England T&F League fixture of the season at their Wyndley track. B&R’s U/13 girls and U/15 girls both won ther age groups at this match.
The only U/11 girl for the club, Molly Savage, passed her rival 10 metres before the finish line in the 600m to claim her first victory for the club in 1.58.1. She was also 3rd in the 75m in 11.9 seconds.
In the Boys U/11, Jim Morley had a great day, winning both the 600m (1.51.4) and 75m (11.4). He was also 2nd in the long jump (3.49m). Lewis Anderson was 2nd in his first race for the club in the 600m ‘B’ race (2.08.4) and Brandon Price was 6th in the 75m (I think Brandon may have competed in the long jump but his result wasn’t available at the time of this report).
B&R had winners in twoU/13 boys events: Nick Freer in the 100m ‘A’ in 13.5 and Callum Goffe in the 100m ‘B’ in 14.3. Callum was also 2nd in the long jump. Lawson Phipps-Jones was 3rd in the 1500m with a P.B. of 5.08.5. Tim Hoppe was 7th in the 800m and 4th in the ‘B’ long jump. Callum Blake was 7th in the 200m.
Daisy Johnson shone in the U/13 Girls competition, winning the 200m ‘A’ (28.6) and long jump (3.85). Romy Naven won the ‘B’ 200m and was 2nd in the 100m ‘A’ in 14.6. Ceri Hammond was 1st in the 100m ‘B’ and long jump. Anna Ball was 5th in the 70m hurdles in 18.0 and 6th in the 800m. Charlotte Tongue was 4th in the 1500m in 6.16.3 and 3rd in both the shot and discus - making her debut in the discus with very little warning!
In the U/15 Boys, Oli Hoppe was 2nd in the 100m in 12.9 and 2nd in the 200m in 26.4. Chris Warren was 2nd in the 400m (59.9) and 3rd in the 1500m ‘A’ (4.51.6). Ashley Grazier ran a PB in the 1500m ‘B’ to finish 3rd. Dewi Hammond was 3 rd in the 100m ‘B’ and 3 rd in the long jump (4.21). Jack Morley was 4th in the 800m in 2.54.7.
(Rita Brownlie)
Can I just add that the biggest cheer of the whole afternoon came as coach/manager/judge Rita Brownlie ran the third leg in the 4x100m relay in the senior women’s match that was also being held at Wyndley. The two Sarahs (King and Gerner) had run close to the Sutton runners on the first two legs, Rita kept the team in contention and Jo Frost blazed up the finishing straight to overhaul the home runner for a B&R relay win.
Special thanks to all the parents who officiated at the javelin, discus and high jump events.
