Timberhonger 10km Road Race

& Kid's 2km Challenge

Thankfully the weather was not near as hot as last year when some 10k runners had been left staggering by the heat. We even avoided the torrential rain that has plagued the area over the last weeks - on the same day the Malvern Half Marathon had to be shortened to miss out Upton-on-Severn which was actually in the Severn!

Over a testing course (especially the hill at 8 km), Belgrave's Joachim Wolf won in 35.11, ahead of local runner Chris Penn (36.29) running for Birmingham University. Halesowen A.C.'s young runner Thomas Trow-Poole was third in 37.01. Caroline Adams (Tipton Harriers) ran 39.54 to be the first woman in across the finish line in Bromsgrove's Sanders Park.

Fresh from his success in last week's Blakedown Bolt, Ian Keyte in 4th place was B&R's first runner home and was also first male veteran. Kevin Lanckham was one place and just 22 seconds behind - avenging his defeat by his son Simon in the steeplechase at the recent T&F league fixture.

There was a good turnout from B&R with 9 men finishers (we had one other unlucky runner drop out through injury) and Fiona Osbourne our only woman finisher.

There was another large B&R contingent in the Kid's 2km Challenge run mostly on grass completely within Sanders Park. Coventry Godiva's Matthew Rose was first. Jim Morley (4th) and Charlotte Cole (7th and 2nd girl) were the first of B&R's 10 finishers in a field of 117.

Special mention must go to the volunteers including many B&R club members who marshalled the course, manned the water station and the finish and also to race organiser Mark Graham.
