National Young Athletes League

Stourport

Sunday 22nd June 2008

Bromsgrove and Redditch AC Young Athletes secured second place at the fourth UK Young Athletes League Meeting of the season at Stourport in strong winds.  Tipton ran away with the points (329.5) due to their strong under 17 age group in both the mens’ and womens’ events.  Most other clubs struggle for under 17 athletes, however Tipton had two athletes in most of the under 17 womens’ and mens’ events.  The points between B&R and Grantham were very close throughout the day with the two clubs changing positions a number of times.  B&R eventually came out on top by only 14 points (B&R 259.5 points, Grantham 245.5 points).  Sparkhill were struggling with a limited number of athletes and hence finished fourth.

Highlight of the day was our under 13 boys winning 6 of the 8 events for both the A and B categories with Simeon Clarence taking a break in the high jump to run the 800m and return back to the high jump for his final jumps.  They also won their 4x100m relay.

This leaves B&R with 11 match points, 2 from the first meeting in Corby where we came 3rd, 2 from the second meeting in Leamington where we also came 3rd, 4 from the third meeting where we came 1st plus the 3 points from the fourth meeting.  We are currently listed as 4th in the table out of 16 clubs, however there are still some results to come in so may drop down to 7th place.
