B&R scoop medals in the final XC race of the season

Yasmine

Sally Hogan

Above: Sally Hogan led for much of her race and although had to settle for 3rd on the day won overall gold.

There was a smaller than usual turnout for the last league race that had been postponed from February due to bad weather. B&R made full use of the opportunity and by fielding enough runners to score in both senior races, our men’s and women’s teams moved up to grab medals. In fact the senior men’s team actually won the team event on the day with just 115 points. There were also fine individual performances from our youngsters as many of them achieved their highest finish of the year. Particular mention should go to Sally Hogan who won the gold medal in the U15 Girls competition (after finishing 3rd in probably the most competitive race of the day)  and Sean Bowden who had a terrific run to win the Under 17 men’s  race (and well done for pencilling in B&R after they listed him as Leamington in the results). The under 11 Boys won their team event and would surely have won team and individual medals if they could have run in more of the fixtures – they show great promise for next year.

Sean Bowden

Above: Sean opened up a commanding gap on the last lap of the U17 men's race.

Charlotte Ball and Ann Stuart

Above: Charlotte and Ann scored in both the senior and veteran women's competitions.

Things had looked bad for B&R’s veteran women’s team who had hoped to overtake Bath A.C. to move in to the medals when they only had Ann and Charlotte with the start approaching. Step forward super sub Yasmine who hadn’t intended to race having run 5 miles in the morning and carrying an injury from crash landings in pole vault training the night before. But she stepped into the breach to make up the scoring team and completed the 2 lap race in spite of losing a shoe half way round the first lap! (What is it about that family and shoes?)
