Javelin Throwers Unite!

On the 11th April 2009 Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletic Club javelin throwers went to not so sunny Bedford International Stadium to compete in the 7th Annual Javelin Festival, Hosted by the UK Javelin Club. The competition was tough as some of the better throwers in the country lined up to give their best opening effort for the coming season. 50+ throwers in total turned out in all age groups from U13 boys and girls to senior men and women. Our club representatives were Sam Lloyd in the U20 Women’s, Andrew Freeman, Richard O’Conner and Sam Cater in the Senior Men’s Category.
Sam Lloyd despite injury pushed on and managed a throw a few meters under her PB, still a lot more to come from this naturally good thrower.
Andrew Freeman’s hard work on the run up (above) unfortunately did not show with the throw the javelin just did not want to fly for him this time, still good effort and a marker to see where he is at for the start the season.
Richard O’Conner (above) in his first competition representing the club put out a good PB and set his goal for the next competition.
Sam Cater back on form after his elbow operation did better than he expected.
Not everyone was pleased with their performances on the day but, I think everyone did as well as they could with the conditions.
