About Us - General
Stourbridge Running club are a friendly club based at the Stourbridge War Memorial Ground (also home to Stourbridge Football Club and Stourbridge Cricket Club) on the A491 in Amblecote.
We meet there to run every Monday and Wednesday at 6.45pm
After running on a Wednesday evening we now use the Cricket Club bar which is a good place to meet the runners in other groups, to find out what races are happening locally and to make new friends.
In the summer months our training runs take place as much as possible off-road but in the winter we generally run around the local streets.
Pace Groups
On a Monday and Wednesday we usually split up into around 6 pace groups:
-
Beginners (at a pace to suit the abilities of those present)
-
Inbetweeners (about 12 minute per mile pace)
-
Steady (about 10 minute per mile pace)
-
Intermediate 2 (about 9 minute per mile pace)
-
Intermediate (about 8 minute per mile pace)
-
Fast (6-7 minute per mile pace)
From time to time there are also groups aimed specifically at speed or hill training. Please click here for Joan's training schedule for January to March 2012.
New Members
If you are interested in coming along, please feel free to contact Ian Clarke at ian-joan.clarke@blueyonder.co.uk or 01384 823857 or simply turn up on a Monday or Wednesday.
A map centred on the entrance to the ground can be found here.
If approaching from the Stourbridge direction, leave the ring road by following signs to Dudley then at the top of the hill continue through the traffic lights and the ground is on the left.
If approaching on the A491 from the Dudley/Kingswinford direction continue past the Ruby Chinese restaurant then the Magnet showroom and the ground is on the right just before the traffic lights.
You can park on the main car park which is reached through the archway at the entrance to the ground. Then walk into the ground, bypassing the turnstyles on the left hand side. Then turn left and continue past the smoking shelter and between the clubhouse and pitch to where we meet by the entrance to the clubhouse. There are some photos of the ground here (scroll down the page to view).
Before we head off, there will be some announcements made and the group leaders for that night will be identified.
We are happy for you to attend on a Monday and Wednesday for a short time before signing up as a club member; it’s important for you to feel comfortable with us before you commit yourself.
