Overview
The BSCTA Scotland is a regional branch of the Association. Formally the Scottish Swimming Coaches Association, BSCTA Scotland is continuing the good work of SSCA to provide coaches and teachers in Scotland with a platform to make themselves heard by having representation on SASA committees and providing an information source for coaches/teachers. Members of the BSCTA Scotland committee are teaching, coaching and tutoring on a daily basis and regularly encounter many of the same problems that all coaches/teachers face from time to time. Scotland Operations Officer Ian Wright currently represents BSCTA Scotland on the SASA Coaches Technical Panel and SASA National Swimming Committee. |

Events
BSCTA Scotland runs a number of events throughout the year. A few examples of these are provided below:
|
21st September - Review and Planning Seminar
This annual one day seminar will focus on a review of the season just past and look ahead to the coming season. In 2002 this will therefore act as the Commonwealth Games debrief for swimming in partnership with the SASA. Presentations will be made by team staff, a swimmer, a spectator and a volunteer worker from the Games to help coaches learn from what happened and the preparations that took place. Discussions will also be held relating to ideas and plans for the season ahead, specifically in relation to training cycles, calendar planning and national squads. |
|
11th May 2002 - Coaching Clinic
BSCTA Scotland will shortly be holding a one day coaching clinic at Stirling University. Designated speakers will include Alan Lynn (SASA Director of Technical Services), Alastair Johnston (SASA National Youth Coach), Tim Jones (Head Coach, City of Edinburgh Swimming), Graham Wardell (Head Coach, Ren 96), Sandy Blackwood (Head Coach, North Ayrshire SC). |
|
23rd February 2002 - Planning Forum
A meeting was held on 23rd February attended by those already involved in BSCTA plus coaches who had previously expressed an interest in becoming involved. With the recently agreed new structure of BSCTA focussing on a much more regional delivery of services it was important to ensure the Scottish region was moving with the times. Roles and responsibilities were assigned, plans formulated for future educational events and discussions held on how to recruit new members. |

12th May 2001 - Sport Psychology Seminar
On 12th May 2001 BSCTA Scotland held a sport psychology seminar with John Hogg as the invited speaker to delegates. Hogg is one of the world's foremost authority on the psychology of sports performance and currently lectures at the University of Alberta in Canada. He is a native of Great Britain and has worked with successful sports teams and individuals all over the world including in his main preferred sport of swimming. The seminar was held at the University of Edinburgh's P.E., Sport & Leisure Department and attended by 21 coaches and guests from the Scottish swimming community. John gave three excellent presentations throughout the day covering topics that included anxiety, confidence, goal setting, motivation and post-performance evaluation. |
