Jane Asher, of Kings Cormorants, is no stranger to the Midland Masters Championships at Royal Leamington Spa where she has broken numerous British, European and World records. This years Midland Championships was no exception, with Jane lowering world records in 2 events with a further European and British record to her tally.

Accompanying Jane in her record-breaking ways was Anne Cork from Slough Eton who, to her own surprise, took one World and one British record.

The Championships took place on 5th , 6th & 7th May 2006 at Leamington Spa’s Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre, which is a perfect setting for this event.

As usual, all the events were mixed sex, with the exception of the single sex relays, and pre-heated in the programme with results service provided by icklepeople software.

Swimmers this year were marginally down on previous years, however this provided for slightly shorter sessions and an early finish to the event on the Sunday afternoon.

The quality of swimming was to its usual high standard with a number of regional records adding to the British, European and World records.

The major records, as per masters tradition, were presented to the record breakers by our guest, Chairman of Warwick District Council, Brian Johnson President of ASA East Midland Region and Mavis Fox President of ASA West Midland Region throughout the weekend.

Tony Ward, the meet manager for the event for the forth year running, would like some feedback from swimmers on:

  1. How the event could be improved in the future?
  2. Should we condense the event into two days?
  3. Should we promote a long course and short course event?
  4. If yes to 3 - should the short course be moved to September as a forerunner to the October Nationals in Sheffield and the current Leamington date be used for the long course as a forerunner to the GB Long course in June?
  5. Why were the entries down this year?

 All constructive feedback is welcome.
