  • The National Age Groups and British Synchronised Swimming Championships took place at the GL1 in Gloucester on 1st and 2nd December 2007. This is the biggest and most important competition in the British synchro calendar, especially this year as we had swimmers from Israel and the World silver medalists from Spain. The West Midlands was well represented with swimmers from Walsall, Rugby and City of Birmingham. In the age group figures 12yrs & under Katie King from City of Birmingham came 1st, and Eleanor Holder from Walsall came 3rd and in the 15/17 years, Yvette Baker came 6th for City of Birmingham. In the Team part of the competition, City of Birmingham came 2nd and Rugby 14th in the 19 & under Recreational combination team, in the 13 &14 recreational combination team Walsall 4th and City of Birmingham 6th, and finally for the teams in the 12 & under free, Walsall swam really well to come in 3rd, City of Birmingham 5th and Rugby 12th. We only had 2 Duets representing the West Midland Region and they were both from the City of Birmingham - Nicola Kong/Natalie Mercier 1st and Sarah Ford/Sophie Ravenscroft 3rd well done to ALL the girls who took part, this is a very positive result for the West Midlands. In the British Champs technical solo event, Zoe Cooper (Walsall SSC) finished in 7th place, and Yvette Baker came 17th for City of Birmingham. Swimmers Elizabeth Smith and sister Nicolette came 6th in the Tech Duet section for City of Birmingham with Zoe Cooper and Rebecca Turford (Walsall SSC) 7th. After the tech event the girls then had to swim their free routines and managed to hold onto their placings. Full Results of the competition can be found on the British swimming website.
