Matthew Shields joined the Amateur Swimming Association in October 2006 as the Everyday Swim Co-ordinator for Telford and Wrekin and will be working closely with West Midland Swimming.
Everyday Swim is a new and exciting national project which aims at increasing participation in swimming; there are 10 regional pilots around the country, each with a different focus.
At the heart of the Telford & Wrekin project are 'hard to reach' groups and the disabled. Matthew is passionate about engaging with these groups and promoting the wider impact swimming can have.
What does this really mean?
At Telford & Wrekin, we are going to work with the local community to create bold, new, exciting and innovative ideas to increase participation. We will share our successes nationally, so that the programme can be rolled out across the country and more people will be able to enjoy the amazing experience of water.
The project will be launched by Duncan Goodhew on Saturday 25th November at Wellington Civic and Leisure Centre, which coincides with the leisure centre’s 25th anniversary.
Matthew is looking forward to the challenges ahead and hopes to share the opportunity of swimming with many residents of the Telford & Wrekin area.
