Exercise in water is commonly acknowledged as a widely accessible activity that provides good cardio vascular and muscular exercise for all with minimal risk of injury. As well as being one of the top activities to help achieve the Government’s recommendation to exercise five times a week, swimming and water-based workouts are being recognised by elite sportsmen and women as a means of complementing their training, regeneration and rehabilitation.

We are pleased to introduce a new strand of endorsed awards in aquatic fitness, developed in collaboration with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and experts in the fitness and swimming industries.

Divided into four distinct categories – Aqua Fit, Aqua Circuits, Aqua Jogging and Fitness Swimming, all awards are mapped to SkillsActive’s new National Occupational Standards for instructing exercise and fitness.

The training is a series of REPs endorsed modules, each of which are worth 16 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.  They will enable Level 2 Exercise and Fitness professionals to increase their knowledge of aquatic exercise and thereby improve the level of service offered to their customers.

Candidates who have completed the training will be qualified to deliver the specific strand selected in a group setting.

The Institute of Swimming is currently the only centre approved by REPs to deliver these training modules.

There are a range of courses now taking place across the UK, advertised on the online listing of courses.  Click here to view the current listing - use the 'All Course Types' filter and select 'Aquatic Fitness'.
