The top placed teams at the completion of the BDO Hockey World Cup Qualifier will earn a spot at the 2006 BDO Hockey World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany.

The 12 competing teams are divided into two pools of six. In each pool, all the teams will play against each other before the classification matches are contested.

In each pool, teams will be ranked according to the number of points they have accumulated during the preliminary rounds.

If at the end of the pool matches two or more teams have the same number of points for any place in a pool, these teams will be ranked according to:

(a) number of matches won
(b) goal difference
(c) number of ‘goals for’
(d) result of the match played between the equal teams
(e) penalty stroke competition between the equal teams

At the end of the round robin phase, the top two teams from each pool will progress to the semi finals and these four teams will earn a berth to the BDO Hockey World Cup.

The third and fourth ranked teams in each pool will play off for fifth place and the remaining World Cup spot to be allocated.

The third ranked team in pool A will play the fourth ranked team in pool B, while the fourth ranked team in pool A will play the third ranked team in pool B. The winner of these two classification matches will advance to the fifth place playoff with the winner earning the 12th and final berth at the World Cup.
