january 2008 blog

The first month of 2008 has been a very quiet one for me, as there have been no major competitions to compete in.

So my main goal for the early part of the year has been to just maintain the solid training that I have been doing over the last 5 months.

However I competed in the Caloundra Sprint meet on the Sunshine Coast, which is about 2 hours from where I am based on the Gold Coast. This was a strange meet for me as I dont usually compete in 50 metre events, so I was certainly out of my element.

However I managed to pick up two 3rd places, which I found very funny.

Next month I am going to be competing in the Miami open (Thats Miami Australia) and the New South Wales State Championships in Sydney.

october 2007 blog

October has been a huge month for me, as this month I have competed in my first set of competitions for the 2007/2008 season.

Firstly I competed at the Queensland Open Water Championships where I raced in the open 10k event and as it was only the second time that I've raced a 10k in competition and I was still experimenting with how was best to swim it.

So I decided to try and go out with the front group and just hang on, however at the 5k mark I found myself equal first with my training partener Richard Charlesworth who is now a very good open water racer. Needless to say my inexperience in the event showed at about 6k when I began to fade off, I ended up in the 8th place which I was happy with, I just need to work on my tactics.

The weekend after myself and the other Offshore swimmers headed up to Brisbane for the Brisbane long course Meet. This was my first pool competition of the season so I was looking for some solid swimming, which I managed to achieve.

I picked up a silver medal in the 400 I.M behind fellow offshore swimmer Roberto Pavoni, and I recorded solid results in my other events on the day (200 Free,100 Free,200 Breast).

The following day I swam a 1500m Freestyle time trial at our home pool in Southport, I swam 16:04.11 which is 24 seconds faster than anyother 1500m that I've swam at that time off the season, so I was very pleased with my results.

september 2007 blog

After my short break away from the pool, I am already back into the swing off things.

For me September is a month of very high metres to build myself back into the work load that I will be holding through the rest of the season.

In the last week I completed a 82km week, with full gym and land programme tagged on to that, So that has put me in good form and spirit for the long year to come.

Next month I will be competing in the Queensland Open Water Championships where I will be doing the 10km, and the Queensland Long Course Championships, so hopefully there will be alot of fast racing to come.

After a long and hectic summer of travelling and competing at the ASA National Championships and the Paris Open I have finally got back to Australia for a short break away from training before getting back into the swing of things for the 2007-2008 Olympic season.

July 2007 blog

I am still in Loughborough getting myself prepared for the National Championships, I've have also found out that I am going to Paris the day after Nationals to compete in the Paris Open so I'm looking forward to that.

I've had some much needed time at home with my family and also celabrated my 20th birthday. After my time here this summer I will not be back in the UK until March 2008, so I'm enjoying my time while I can.

june 2007 blog

This month was my last solid training cycle before I returned home to compete in the ASA National Championships, so we made the most of the time we had and stepped training up to the next gear to get in the best shape we possibly could.

Towards the end of June our squad began our journey back to the UK. We had a short flight over to Singapore where we had a short one week training camp.

Needless to see the weather in Singapore was unlike anything I have experienced before.

Everyday it was 35+, with the humidity staying at 100% the whole time we where there. While we where there our group was invited to go and watch a international football game between Singapore and Australia, we where given VIP tickets and sat in a box.

Australia won the game 3-0.

After our time in Singapore, we left for home and set our selves up in Loughborough for a 3 week camp where we would prepare for the National Championships.

may 2007 blog

After getting back to Australia last month everything has just been really quiet. Its just been a case of getting my head down in training and getting ready for the summers competitions. A week ago, myself and the other Offshore Centre swimmers traveled up to Brisbane and competed in the Telstra Australian Grand Prix.

Most of Australia's top swimmers where there so this gave us a great opportunity to see them in action and compare ourselves to them. The whole point of this meet for me was to get in some race practice as we where not shaved or tapered. I came seventh in the 1500m Freestyle and had very solid performances in the 100m,200m and 400m Freestyle.

april 2007 blog

At the start of this month I went back to Australia, which was a welcome relief after enduring the weather back in England.

Right now I'm just getting back into full training in preparation for the summers competitions. I'm also looking to do some more open water swims in the next few months as I want to swim the 10km at next years Olympics as well as my pool event, the 1500m Freestyle.

march 2007 blog

This month has been one of the most hectic of my life.

It all started off fairly quiet while I was still in Australia getting ready for the British Championships, but as soon as I returned to Britain everything was just go go go!

Firstly I competed at the British Championships in Manchester, where I picked up a silver medal in the 1500m Freestyle, and two personal best times in the 400m Freestyle and 400m I.M, which I was pretty happy with.

Then, after four days at home it was down to Norwich to do another 1500m Freestyle, and then from Norwich I went back up to Sheffield to compete in the Deventio Excel meet over a weekend where I picked up two gold's in the 200m and 400m Freestyle and a 4th in the 100m Freestyle.

Now its time to go back to Australia into training again!

february 2007 blog

This month has just been all about training and getting myself ready for the British Championships at the end of March.

However this was hindered slightly because I picked up a cold virus towards the end of the month, which put me out of training for about a week. But fortunately I have managed to get over that very well and I am now training better and faster than ever.

Also I am getting together the last little bits of information that I need to apply for my new Australian Visa, the money that Kellogg's has given to me is going to help me greatly in paying for this.

january 2007 blog

Since Christmas life has been very hectic! After a three week stay at home for Christmas and New Year, I set off for two weeks of long traveling.

Our first stop was a week long training camp in Singapore, and after travelling through Singapore for so many years, it was good to finally see it. After that, we headed back to the Gold Coast where we had another week long camp before returning to the TSS.

While on this camp we raced at the Miami Super Challenge, which is a one day meet held at the pool where Grant Hackett trains. I got some really good results considering all of the travelling I had done up until that point.

Although I did not swim my main event (1500m Freestyle), I won bronze in both the 200m and 400m Freestyle. After this we returned back to TSS and we got right into the hard graft of training.
