This course provides instructors with the skills to design and deliver safe, effective, quality balanced Fitness Swimming programmes and evaluate the effectiveness of a Fitness Swimming Group Session.
Description: For those who want to use swimming as a fitness activity to complement a dry land workout, Fitness Swimming uses basic swimming techniques and equipment to do a more fitness oriented laps session. By introducing different strokes and training accessories attendees will be able to add variety and interest to their sessions while focusing on different muscle groups. A kickboard will enable them to work the legs while a pull buoy will keep them afloat and allow them to concentrate on the upper body.
Duration: 3 days
Entry requirements: Swimming Industry - Level 2 qualification in swimming teaching/coaching
Fitness Industry - Level 2 Wet or Dry Fitness Instructor - Ideally be a Member of The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)
Course content: - Swim Strokes Workshop (exemptions will apply to Level 2 qualified swimming teachers / coaches) - Principles of fitness - Principles of training - Theory of exercise in water - Types of exercise to use in water - How to plan, instruct and evaluation a Fitness Swimming training session
Assessment: You will submit a portfolio of evidence which contains the following: - Screening documentation for all participants - Session Plan designed for Fitness Swimming - Training card for Fitness Swimming - Session Plan Organiser - Evidence of CPR/First Aid Certificate - Health and Safety Worksheet - Promote the Adoption of Physical Activity Worksheet
You will then be observed instructing your group through the planned session. Following assessment you will carryout a written evaluation of your performance and create an action plan for your continued professional development.
