ASA Club and County Conference 2008: Presentations

Does you club have the capacity to meet the needs of increasing and retaining participants in the sport?

We need to know if you can meet the challenge of increasing the membership of your clubs. To do this please complete the questionnaire to be found via the link below.

The ASA recognises that you have more than enough to do without completing questionnaires, so two IoS CPD Vouchers will be given to all clubs completing the questionnaire. These vouchers can be used for any IoS seminar within a twelve month period.

The Department of Culture Media and Sport and Sport England have targets to increase participation in sport and active recreation. This means that Sport England and County Sports partnerships are now directing funding towards organisations and programmes which help to meet the Governments target as set out below.

‘by 2008, increasing the number who participate in active sports at least 12 times a year by 3 per cent, and increasing the number who engage in at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity level sport, at least three times a week by 3 per cent.’

It is not anticipated that this target will change significantly in the next funding agreement 2009 –13, therefore it is important that the ASA understands more about club capacity and whether clubs are able to meet the demands being set. Anecdotal evidence tells us that clubs do not have enough pool time, access at appropriate times and pool hire is too expensive and we would like to investigate this in order to see what the ASA needs to do to help meet this target.

To start this investigation we have designed an on-line questionnaire give us a picture of what club capacity currently is. The information will also be used to highlight issues about capacity that need further research. We would like each club to complete the questionnaire that can be accessed at http://www.keysurvey.co.uk/survey/182153/e38a/. We will make the findings of the research available via the website.
