Workforce Development Update

Edition 10: 14 April 2008

Dear all,

The first group of candidates studying for the Level 3 Certificate for Coaching Swimming are currently undertaking the new Unit 11, which is a practical vocational placement.  Comments so far have been encouraging, for example:  "it is a rare opportunity to spend time one on one with a Level 4 coach, who is able to help me develop my programme". We are aiming for the first Level 3 candidates to have passed the Unit later this month.

We are continuing to develop the proto-type of an E-learning package to support the delivery of Level 1, Unit 1 courses.  E-learning consultancy Kineo are now working closely with the University of East London to provide a platform for this project and we anticipate this being available towards the end of the year.

Nominations are now open for the 2008 Aquaforce Volunteer Awards.  There are five categories in total: Outstanding Contribution to Club, Outstanding Contribution to County or Region, Long Service Award, Young Volunteer (under 18) and Outstanding Contribution by a 18-25 yr old. Full details and nomination forms are on the website here.

The latest School Swimming newsletter has been added to the website (available here). This edition includes an update on the Top Up scheme as well as a summary of the recommendations of the November 07 OFSTED report.

Finally, a fond farewell to Linda Jones, who has recently taken early retirement after completing over twelve years within the ASA.  She began in September 1995 as secretary to the Education Administrator and remained in the Education department and latterly Workforce Development in various roles.  Linda particularly enjoyed organising the annual Southern Water Conference for eleven years, for upwards of 200 people.

That's all for now, see you next time.
