Workforce Development Update

Edition 18: 18 August 2008

Dear All,

In relation to the Awarding Body two new sections have been introduced onto the British Swimming website. Firstly UKCC course notifications. The UKCC Level 1 results will be obtainable within three weeks, and Level 2 results within seven weeks. Secondly, a new independent approved centre course list for those wishing to gain an asa qualification in the approaching months is also accessible.

A UKCC Level 4 pilot meeting took place in Scotland to discuss further steps for the progression of the Level 4 qualification.

Water polo courses were held last week in Millfield, in conjunction with the National Academy. The level 1 and level 2 courses ran consecutively, with approximately 150 candidates taking part. Martyn Thomas ran the level 1 course that consisted of many young players, all of whom passed the course. Pippa Jones conducted the level 2 course, with Malcom Sunner and Alan Donnellson assisting. Those partaking in the level 2 course were able to complete half the course units at the camp and will now continue to complete all the units.

Norman Leighton, water polo Talent Officer said, “ it all went very well and was run successfully.”

An exciting upcoming event is the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) open day, which will take place at Loughborough University on September 7th. Those attending will meet Michelle Kiff, asa National Education Officer, who will give an AASE overview speech and Dave Legge, Regional Talent and Development Coach for the North East and Yorkshire region, who will present an England Talent overview. During the day group workshops with Talent Development Officers will be available, before meeting Olympic bronze medallist and motivational speaker Steve Parry.

That's all for now.
