Workforce Development Update
Edition 19: 10 September 2008
Dear All,
We have promised to make the UKCC course results available within eight weeks, yet are exceeding expectations by notifying Level 1 candidates of their results within five weeks. Level 2 results remain within the eight-week time scale. We are using the web to announce our progress with these timescales. Due to the system in place, candidates are unable to receive results over the phone, so we are also using the website to advise them.
The Register of Aquatic Professionals (RAP’s) on the website has also been updated, by adding more licensed teachers. Employers now have more qualified candidates to contact about jobs.
Students at the Wright Robinson Sports College in Manchester are being given the chance to obtain the UKCC Level 1 teaching aquatics qualification. Year 11 students will be able complete the course throughout the school year, gaining their certificate once they turn 16.
Some of the UKCC Level 3 Units are to be delivered in conjunction with Bill Furniss, coach of double Olympic Gold medallist Rebecca Adlington in October and November. Furniss is a Level 3 coach himself and helped devise some of the syllabus for the Level 3 award, which focuses on planning, implementing, analysing and revising coaching programmes. He will be delivering the units on two weekends, the first being the 24th, 25th and 26th October and the second being the 8th and 9th November.
A number of candidates have been successfully undertaking the process of Recognition of Current Competency, gaining exemption from certain units. The number of candidates actively registered on the programme has reached an all time high of 240.
The UKCC Level 3 Senior Coach Programme units are currently being planned, with the hope of publication by the middle of October. The programme will be delivered in combination with the English Talent Beacon programmes.
That’s all this time.
