Workforce Development Update
Edition 20: 3 November 2008
Dear All,
The new National Curriculum Training Plan is now running across England and the reviewed document for the 2008/2009 academic year is available under the Teachers and Coaches tab, on the British Swimming website.
The Institute of Swimming is in the process of recruiting four full-time tutors who will be responsible for delivering the NCTP programme around the country.
Michael Hallewell has been meeting with Regional Directors and Education Officers to review education in each region over the first six months, which includes asa/UKCC courses and CPD seminars. During this period more than 4,000 people have attended asa/UKCC courses organised and run by the Institute of Swimming.
Tutor training continues to run, with Sportscoach UK Certificate for Tutoring in Sport courses running in a number of regions over the past two weeks. Next year’s intake will be recruited in the near future, again with the website having all the details.
The Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence Programme (AASE) has now moved from Workforce Development to England Talent Programmes to fit with the talent pathways. One hundred and twelve new AASE athletes were inducted to the programme at the end of September, with their first weekend workshop in November, focussing on Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning.
Forty-five swimmers attended the offshore AASE programme last week, where they gained experience of overseas training in an outdoor environment. Swimmers attended workshops focusing on nutrition, strength and conditioning, and had access to two training sessions a day - land training and access to sports science support. The swimmers also worked to achieve a lot of their NVQ’s for units 1-4.
Chloe Hart and Harry Needs attended the Beijing Victory Parade in London as AASE ambassadors alongside AASE athletes from other sports. Please see the Skills Active Release at http://www.skillsactive.com/resources/news/aase-athletes-meet-golden-apprentice

In addition, the administrative team have been restructured and there is now a regional split, with each member responsible for resulting, certification, re-assessments and Centre, Course and Candidate registrations, of the different regions.
Reena Jagivan – West Midlands, East Midlands and East regions.Kate McInnes – London, South East and South West regions. Jill Catherall – North East, North West and Wales regions.
The Awarding Body contact details have consequently changed, to reflect the changes within the department. These can be found on the British Swimming website.
