Wavepower 2009/11 – ASA Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures

Wavepower 2009/11 is the new Amateur Swimming Association Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures manual folder and replaces all previous ASA Child Protection Policies and Procedures documents.  All ASA affiliated clubs and organisations should adopt and implement the Policies and Procedures contained in this manual folder.

Wavepower 2009/11 provides ASA Child Safeguarding Policy, mandatory requirements, practical information and good practice guidance in one place for use by club officers, club members, parents, children and all those who work with our young members so that everyone involved in our sport can play their part in safeguarding children and young people.

One copy of Wavepower 2009/11 will be  provided to every Club, County and Regional Welfare Officer during August and September 2009 together with key ASA staff and volunteers. The attached PDF files can be viewed or printed off as required if additional copies are required.

The document will be fully updated during 2012 but in the meantime if changes in policy or new child safeguarding guidance becomes available new pages will be added to this section of the website.  The new pages should be printed off and added to your Wavepower 2009/11 folder.   If clubs require any assistance with printing,  please contact signposting@swimming.org with your request.

In producing the new Wavepower 2009/11 the ASA has drawn on the ideas and feedback from the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit, the ASA Youth Forum, Welfare Officers, Club Officers, parents, swimmers and all those who work with children and young people in our clubs and we would like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge all of those individuals who have helped with the content of this document.

The ASA would welcome any feedback on Wavepower 2009/11, feedback can be sent via e-mail to signposting@swimming.org.

Under this section of the website you will also find other useful documents relating to Swimline and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) Vetting and Barring Scheme.

Safe Sport Away is available to buy from the ASA Awards Department on 0800 220292.  Safe Sport Away has been produced to provide an accessible and practical resource to support organisations to plan safely for trips away and to fulfil their duty of care for the young people taking part in these activities.
