Then to play with nine men, sorry women, down for a period of time was difficult. South Africa spread the game and I was pleased with how the girls handled the situation."

On the development of the National Hockey Team (Women's) in England with the 2012 Olympics approaching...

"Some years ago, I suggested we needed to train together more regularly and it required the girls to make a decision to move to a central training place. With the 2012 Olympics, our funding has increased and we have made tactical strides and progress with conditioning over the past year."

On scoring three goals for England in the last two days and her thoughts on carrying the pleasure or burden of scoring…

“Obviously it is nice to get your name on the score sheet, but I do not care who scores. I think this team has shown real grit and determination. I think we are not showing our best hockey yet. Our wanting to win and for us that [drive] is a big step forward and it is fantastic for the team to have progressed as we have and show those improvements on the world level.”

“I think our win against Spain was good for the team. I think with regard to today’s match and compared to the amount of time England has to train together, we probably train 5-10% of the time, so a 2-1 result against England is not a bad result given that fact.’

“We do not get a grant from our government. We work or study full time.”
