National Competition Framework and Competition Managers

The National Competition Framework for young people is a collaboration between Youth Sport Trust, Sport England, the National Council for School Sport (NCSS) and the National Governing Bodies of Sport and was Launched in September 2005, setting out the following vision:

  • A world-class system of competitive sport for young people.
  • Transformation of the content, structure and presentation of competitive opportunities for young people of school age.
  • A heightened profile for school sport and, specifically, competitive opportunities.

The National Competition Framework was piloted by the Youth Sport Trust across 5 County Sports Partnerships employing 20 Competition Managers.  English Lacrosse is one of 21 sports to have completed their Framework and started implementing into schools using the now extended competition manager’s network.

English Lacrosse, the National Governing Body for Men and Women, has worked systematically to provide an integrated and modern competition structure, for schools. Consulting across the broad spectrum of the sport, and involving the Youth Sport Trust in the discussions, English Lacrosse has done its utmost to ensure that this framework is holistic in its approach and is designed to encourage the use of competitions as a key tool for the wider development of the sport and the delivery of Lacrosse’s the long term athlete development plan.

The Competition Framework has allowed English Lacrosse to emphasise the importance of mini-games at the heart of the development of the sport at primary school. It has also enabled us to provide all young people with a structured, accessible and appropriate level of competition at all ages for field lacrosse.

English Lacrosse’s competition framework is an integral part of the Lacrosse Development Programme, training courses and resources to support delivery at each development stage are available.

English Lacrosse would like to thank the Youth Sport Trust’s staff for their considerable help and advice in developing the competition framework for Lacrosse.
