Foreword by the President

Dear Friends,

This website is an invitation to communicate and share, to partake of the wealth of experience and emotion hidden in every corner of our community, the FIG.

The FIG!

The Federation counts some 50 million licensed gymnasts throughout the world, divided into 129 affiliated federations. Every continent, every culture is represented. Gymnastics is an incalculable asset, a vast culture, an attitude globally understood, and I intend to develop it further for the good of every individual.

Through competition, as always, but also through gymnastics for all.

Today more than ever before, we need to remember that behind our sport are the gymnasts who make it real. Without these men and women our sport would not exist. They are the base of our pyramid, a base composed of millions of anonymous gymnasts supporting the apex of an elite few.

Much water has passed under the bridge of gymnastics since the first time I grasped the bar with my hands so many years ago! With years of experience as a sportsman, physical education professor, gymnast and judge, having worked high within the Italian Federation, with the Italian National Olympic Committee and with the FIG since 1996, I have seen to what an extent the family of Gymnastics sets an example for the whole of humanity.

I know what I’m talking about.

Be familiar with the incredible strength of our sport, but do not forget the responsibility we carry in terms of health, education, general well-being, sport justice and the values contained in the Olympic Movement.
